From St. John, USVI

Welcome to the Caribbean, where my love affair with the islands began. St. John, my initiation into the Caribbean charm, unfolded in 2021—an unique time to experience it as  the cruise ships were still anchored. It turned our friend's birthday trip into what felt like it was just us and the locals.

Picture this: waking up with the sun, diving into the crystal-clear waters before breakfast. Every beach we visited was a pristine haven. St. John, mostly a national park, offered beaches with the whitest sand, surrounded by lush jungle greenery and small volcanic islands on the horizon— the most enchanting place I've ever been.

Our routine slipped into what was a dream—early swims, afternoon hikes leading to another refreshing dip. On our most daring day, we embarked on a morning hike to see petroglyphs, raced across the island, persuaded a guy who lived near by to take us on his boat to the lime green taco boat (only accessible by boat), and then ended the night hiking Ram Head Trail for a stunning sunset. Pure magic.

From wandering donkeys and goats to angelic sea turtles, and lush green hills, this island is for nature lovers. It was the first time I felt the absurdity of our planet. With the vast, unreal blue waters surrounding all the volcanic islands, you really appreciate that we live on a water planet. Just floating on specs of land.

Sure, you can opt for the typical tropical tourist experience in all-inclusive resorts, but the real charm lies in venturing off the beaten beach paths. Explore a new beach each day; let this floating rock reveal its wonders, and bask in the sun-bleached embrace of Mother Nature.

If you're as captivated by the allure of St. John as I am, stay tuned for more tales of my island adventures. Let's uncover the secrets and soak up the vibes of this Caribbean gem together.

Ram Head Trail

Best spot for watching the sunset. Plus you get to experience two unique beaches - the pink looking Salt Pond Beach and Blue Cobble Stone beach (which looks exactly what it sounds like, full of smooth stones). The trail ends at Ram Head Peak which is dotted with beautiful round little flowering cacti.

Coral Harbor

Must do - charter or hitch a ride on a boat to the floating taco restaurant, Lime Out. Not just a novelty, the tacos were delicious and the view you get to soak in while floating on a bright green inflatable is unreal. Bonus (if it's still there) is the cutest art stand filled with unique island images by a local artist, Bobby Blues.

Maho Bay Beach

Sea turtles! That's all I have to say about this beach. If you don't want to spend a day on a sea turtle tour but still want to see these angelic creatures - go where they eat. They love sea grass, so go to the beaches and coves where that grows. Be patient and bring your snorkle gear. They are so beautiful and swim like birds fly.

Christmas Cove

Perfect place to spend the afternoon. One of the best areas to snorkel and see living coral and fish (reef safe sunscreen is a must, help keep the sea life safe!). End the day watching the sunset and eating pizza from the floating pizza boat.
